Online Communites of Practice
Looking for some great ideas for your content area? Have a question you want to throw out about a standard? These and many other issues can be addressed using the Online Communities of Practice provided by the Indiana DOE. And since it is Indiana, it is specific to our state standards.
Here is the link to the site.
You have to join with Google+ to have access. If you have not already joined Google+ you can use your ACS e-mail account to join.

Building Relationships with Students
I attended a conference yesterday put on the the Marzano folks. Here is one of the videos they shared about relationships.
"No significant learning can without significant relationship." (-James Comer) (1:07)
This is what Tom Forkner sent out recently. We don't always get appreciated for what we do, but we don't do for the appreciation, do we? (Not that some appreciation wouldn't be nice sometimes. )

So even though we don't do it for the appreciation, the appreciation is still a positive thing. Doesn't that apply to students as well?
Site of the Week - Math Is Power 4 U
This site was shared with me by Mrs. Freeman over at Edgewood (5th Grade). She said she uses it a lot. It covers topics from pre-algebra to calculus! So it should be a great tool for a Middle School!

Site of the Week - Learn Zillion
You can find a lesson (or more) on any given standard, Math and Language Arts.. Once you sign up (and signing up is free) you can search by grade, domain, and standard. Or you can just type in a topic in the search bar. For instance, if you type in Absolute Value, you might find this video.
Once you have gotten to the page with the video, you can also view the slides the video was created from, comments from the video's creator, see some guided practice questions, and more.
These videos could be part of a Success Time lesson, viewed in the computer lab, set up for a sub.

Website of the Week!
The website of the week is worksheetworks.com
I found this site several years ago, and have shared it with as many as possible since. Great activities for all subject matter. These worksheets can be created to suit many different needs as they allow you to set some of the parameters. Then, it generates a new worksheet each time, even if you leave the parameters the same. These are then given as a PDF file with the answer key.
Great for subs, Success Time, or to reinforce a specific lesson!

App of the Week - Educareations (Free!)
This is a great app with many ways to use. (Link) Here are just a few...
Here is an example of what teachers have posted...
Here is one that I created. (Bar model of a 5th grade problem)
- Create your own lessons, then post them to a website.
- Use this as a framework for classroom instruction.
- Record your own instruction for students to view again as needed, even at home.
- Browse great, creative, interactive lessons from other teachers to enhance you teaching or use directly with your students.
- Use for morning work. Then show a correct solution.
- Use during Success Time. A teacher can post instruction and then provide a problem. Then pause the screen while students work. Resume to share a correct solution method or multiple methods.
